Knowing what you put in your body!

IMG_20160430_162218Recently it has come to my attention that the superfood shake that I used to love and rave about may have had higher lead levels than it should have…

Until I know for certain that it is safe, I’m not going to reorder it. In the meantime, I am going to create my own healthy shakes/smoothies from whole food ingredients that I know are safe and will help me with my overall health!  So I am going to start creating my own recipes which I will share on my “Healthy Recipe” page.

After I did a bit of digging I found out that the whole “high lead level” issue has been common in the past with “healthy powder shakes” in general. Various testing is done to check these levels and make sure they’re safe.

Being a fitness & nutrition coach I know it may seem easy and ideal to have a nutritional drink that is all bundled up for you, but I also know that creating your own with whole foods that do not come with additives or anything other than what you know you put in it, is ideal!

I am not trying to deter anyone from drinking a protein or health food shake, I just want everyone to be informed and look into what they’re consuming more.  Just make sure it’s safe!

I’ll start my first recipe here:

  • 1/2 cup of plain unsweetened Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup unsweetened regular almond milk
  • 1/2 ripe avocado
  • Ground chia & flax seed (sprinkled in)
  • Frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries & raspberries)
  • 1/2 cup kale & baby spinach
  • 4 large ice cubes

Can’t wait to try it out! 🙂
